We'd checked off the usual tourist spots, enjoyed the beautiful beaches, visited the local markets, and snapped a few photos at the Po Nagar Cham Towers. But after living here for a while? That’s when we really started to see what makes Nha Trang feel like home.

It’s not just about the postcard-perfect beaches (though they’re pretty spectacular). It’s the laid-back vibe, the sunsets that stop you in your tracks, and those hidden gems you only discover after spending time here. We’ve put together this guide to share the best things to do in Nha Trang, from the people who actually live here. So, whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned traveller, here’s our version of Nha Trang through the eyes of the locals.

1. Island Hopping Tour with Diving & Snorkelling

When we first set off on an island-hopping tour in Nha Trang, we were beyond excited. The tour took us to some of the most iconic islands: Hon Mun, Hon Tam, and Hon Mieu.

Hon Mun is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, making it a paradise for snorkelers and divers. According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), it’s also the area with the most marine biodiversity in Vietnam. For a relaxing stop, Hon Tam has sandy beaches and clear waters, so you can unwind in the picturesque scenery. If you’ve had enough of diving and snorkelling, stop over at Hon Mieu Island for tourist attractions like visiting an aquarium or a local fishing village.

2. Relax on the Beaches

When we talk about Nha Trang’s beaches, we always start with Tran Phu Beach. It's the most popular so. It’s just a short stroll from the city centre, so it’s our go-to whenever we need a quick beach fix. The energy here is contagious, with people sunbathing, swimming, and chatting along the shore. The vendors walking by with fresh fruits or snacks make it even better.

But there are times when we want to escape the crowd and find a quieter spot to recharge. Bai Dai Beach (also known as Long Beach) is our secret retreat. It’s not too far from the city, but it feels like a whole new world. The long stretches of sand, the palm trees swaying gently, and the tranquillity here are what make it stand out. We love taking a walk along the shore, breathing in the salty air. It’s one of those places where you can truly lose track of time.

What makes Bai Dai extra special is the peaceful vibe it offers. While other beaches can get crowded, this one still maintains its laid-back charm. It’s perfect for anyone who wants a more serene experience, whether you're enjoying a quiet swim, walking along the water, or just unwinding with a book.

If you’re into photography, Bai Dai Beach offers incredible opportunities to capture stunning sunsets and sunrises with your digital camera. During sunset, the vibrant sky creates beautiful reflections on the water, perfect for wide-angle shots. For sunrise, the soft morning light and tranquil beach provide the ideal setting for landscape photos. We recommend arriving around 4:30 AM for sunrise to catch the best light, or around 5:30 PM for sunset to witness the sky at its most colourful.

3. Explore Ba Ho Waterfall

When we first visited Ba Ho Waterfall, we had no idea what we were getting into. About 40 minutes from the city, the journey starts with a rocky hike that’s a bit of a challenge, but trust us, the reward is well worth it. As you make your way through the lush jungle, you’ll be getting closer to the beautiful crystalline waters waiting to cool you off.

There are three waterfalls here, each with its own charm. The first is the most popular and accessible, perfect for swimming and relaxing. For those up for more adventure, the second and third waterfalls offer a chance to do some cliff jumping or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings. It’s an incredible place to connect with nature.

The ticket price for visiting the waterfall is about 100,000 VND per person, and the parking fee is 4,000 VND per car. We definitely recommend arriving early to avoid crowds and fully enjoy the tranquil beauty.

4. Visit Long Son Pagoda & the White Buddha

Long Son Pagoda, built in 1886, is one of the most significant landmarks in Nha Trang. Located on Trai Thuy Hill, the pagoda offers a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for those seeking some quiet time in the city. What makes this place special is its iconic 24-meter White Buddha statue. It's the tallest Buddha statue in Nha Trang, and standing near it gives you a real sense of peace.

The climb up the hill is worth the effort, as it rewards you with stunning panoramic views of the city, the ocean, and the surrounding mountains. As you walk through the pagoda, you’ll also notice the intricate details of the architecture and carvings, adding to the spiritual experience of the place.

A visit to Long Son Pagoda is not just about the Buddha statue. It’s also a chance to experience the peaceful vibe and take in one of the best views in Nha Trang. This place is a must-see for its history, serenity, and the beautiful views it offers.

5. Visit Po Nagar Cham Towers

Visiting the Po Nagar Cham Towers was like stepping back in time. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by a sense of calm, despite the towers being nestled in the heart of Nha Trang. 

We made our way up Cu Lao Hill, and as we approached the towers, we were struck by the impressive architecture. The intricate carvings and stone details felt like they had stories to tell, centuries old.

What makes Po Nagar stand out is that it’s not just a historical site, it’s still a living place of worship. We watched as locals came to pray at the main tower, dedicated to Queen Po Ina Nagar.

The views from the hill were breathtaking, with the Cai River winding below and the city stretching out in the distance. It was the perfect spot to pause, take it all in, and feel a sense of peace.

What really made this experience special was the combination of history, spirituality, and scenic beauty all for just 30,000 VND. It's one of those places that feels different from other tourist spots, offering both a quiet moment and a powerful connection to the past.

6. Visit Van Phong Bay

One of our favourite spots to escape the hustle and bustle of Nha Trang is Van Phong Bay. It's about 50 km north of the city, and trust us, it feels like a whole different world. The natural beauty here is truly mesmerising. Surrounded by towering hills, mountains, and lush forests, it’s a place where you can just stop and breathe in the fresh, clean air.

When we first arrived, the calmness of the bay took us by surprise. The water was so clear and warm, perfect for a swim. We found a quiet spot by the shore, with pristine sand and no crowds just the sound of the waves and the occasional bird singing.

What makes Van Phong Bay even more special is the weather. The area has just two seasons: rainy and dry. We love coming here between December and June when the weather is at its best, warm, sunny, and perfect for swimming or simply relaxing by the water.

7. Shop at Cho Dam Market

One of our favourite experiences in Nha Trang was visiting Cho Dam Market. The moment we stepped in, we were instantly immersed in the lively atmosphere. The market was buzzing with locals, the scent of fresh produce in the air, and the sound of bargaining filling every corner. We spent time wandering through the narrow aisles, discovering everything from vibrant fruits and herbs to local fish that made the place feel so authentic.

Of course, we couldn’t resist trying a “Banh Mi”, it was crispy, hot, and perfect for street food as we continued to explore. We also picked up a few handmade souvenirs, like silk scarves and wooden carvings, which made for the perfect keepsakes to remind us of the vibrant market.

8. Explore the Salt Fields

One of the most unique experiences we had near Nha Trang was visiting the Hon Khoi Salt Fields in Khanh Hoa Province. It’s not your typical tourist spot, but that’s what made it so special. The fields stretch out as far as the eye can see, with rows upon rows of salt flats glistening under the sun. The sight was unlike anything we’d seen before.

We arrived early in the morning to catch the salt harvesters at work. We saw firsthand the effort that goes into harvesting salt and the way the community relies on this ancient process. It wasn’t just about taking pictures; it was about being part of something real and meaningful. 

The Hon Khoi Salt Fields offer a rare glimpse into an aspect of Vietnamese culture that not many tourists get to see.

9. See Nha Trang Cathedral

We had heard a lot about Nha Trang Cathedral, but nothing quite prepared us for how beautiful it really is. Located just a short walk from the city centre, this cathedral, often referred to as the Stone Church, was built in the 1930s by French missionaries. The striking European architecture stands out with its Gothic-style features, making it a unique sight in a city more famous for its beaches.

What makes the cathedral even more special is the fact that it’s made almost entirely from stone. The walls are lined with intricate carvings, and the roof is beautifully designed, giving it an old-world charm that feels almost surreal when set against the modernity of Nha Trang.

We were lucky enough to visit during sunrise, and the way the morning sun gently illuminated the cathedral’s stone facade was absolutely breathtaking. The vibrant stained-glass windows added even more beauty, casting colourful reflections on the church floor as the sun climbed higher.

The cathedral is not just for religious visitors, it’s a quiet, reflective spot for anyone who appreciates architecture, history, or simply stunning views.

10. Take a Mud Bath at Thap Ba Hot Springs

After a day of exploring the city, nothing feels better than unwinding at Thap Ba Hot Springs. This place is one of those hidden gems that both locals and tourists flock to for a good reason. Located just a 15-minute drive from the city centre, it’s the perfect spot to relax and recharge.

We were a bit sceptical at first, mud baths are not something you experience every day, but once we settled into the warm, mineral-rich mud, we were hooked. The mud is said to have healing properties, and as we soaked, we felt the stress from the day melt away. It’s like a natural spa treatment, but with a twist.

What makes Thap Ba Hot Springs stand out is not just the mud bath itself, but the variety of services offered. Whether you want a traditional mud soak, a relaxing hot mineral bath, or even a soothing massage, there’s something here for everyone. We spent a few hours indulging in the hot springs, chatting with new friends, and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
