This is the soul of Hoi An. The Ancient Town is a maze of mustard-yellow buildings, vibrant cafes, and art shops. Travellers can spend hours checking out temples, ancient houses, and the famous Japanese Covered Bridge.

Suit Up with a Custom Tailoring Experience

Hoi An is also known as Vietnam’s tailoring capital. Whether it’s a tailored suit, a new dress, or a backpack to hold all your souvenirs, you can have it custom-made here for a reasonable price. Head to reputable shops like Yaly Couture or BeBe Tailor to design something that fits you perfectly.

Rice Fields and Countryside Exploration

Rent a bike and head out of town to explore the rice paddies and peaceful countryside. You’ll feel truly free as you immerse yourself by cycling along dirt paths, passing by water buffalo, and waving back at friendly locals. You can even book a guided eco-tour to learn about traditional farming and fishing techniques from local villagers - chat with the friendly FUSE team to book one of these eco-tours.

Visiting Local Markets

Hoi An’s markets are bustling hubs of local life. Start with the Hoi An Central Market for fresh produce, spices, and souvenirs. This is also where you can pick up a sturdy, locally made backpack for a fraction of big-brand prices. The night market is a must, too—it’s vibrant, packed with street food, and ideal for nighttime browsing under the glow of lanterns.

Getting Around Town

Biking and Motorbiking

Biking is the way to go here, you can rent one for about $1-2 a day. You’ll love riding through the rice paddies, feeling the breeze and seeing Hoi An as if you’re a local. If you’re up for something faster, rent a motorbike for around $6-8 a day (24 hours)!

On Foot or By Bus

Hoi An is small enough to walk around, which we highly recommend especially early in the morning before the crowds hit and the temperature rises in the warmer months.

Tips From the FUSE Team

  • Bargaining is Key: Hoi An’s markets are great for souvenirs, but don’t forget to bargain. Start low (maybe half of what they ask), and go up a bit if you need to. They expect it!
  • Stay Hydrated: The tropical weather can be intense, especially if you walk around a lot. Bring a reusable water bottle, most places offer free refills.
  • Respect Temple Rules: Some temples have dress codes, so pack a scarf or something to cover your shoulders and knees. Also, remember to take off your shoes.
  • Watch for “Lantern Sellers”: Along the river, vendors might ask you to buy lanterns to float on the water. They can be pretty persistent, but a friendly “Không, cảm ơn” means “No, thank you!” usually does the trick.

Our Take

Hoi An is a favourite for adventure-seekers who visit Vietnam.

There’s something magical about biking through misty rice fields at dawn.

And egg coffee by the river? One of the best parts is wandering through Ancient Town early in the morning. It’s a rare moment when you can experience its beauty in total calm, with only the sound of the river and the soft chatter of early risers.

Wrapping Up

Hoi An is a backpacker’s dream. The locals greet you with a warmth that feels like home, the sights are breathtaking, and the food? Let’s just say it’s hard to stop eating. Whether you're here to dive into the town’s rich history, catch some beach vibes, or just unwind with a view that never gets old, Hoi An has a way of making you want to stay just a little longer. So, pack your bags, bring a camera, and be ready for an adventure.
